Whether you are building a residential or commercial building, one of the most important considerations you should prioritise is fire safety equipment. This precaution enables you to save lives in cases of accidental fires. The equipment also ensures the safety of firefighters when trying to put out the fires. There are several types of fire fighting equipment you should have at your property or facility.

Fire Extinguishers

When a fire erupts, the first thing to do is to put it out. This is the purpose of a fire extinguisher. There are various types of fire extinguishers designed to deal with different types of fires. They include water and foam, dry chemical, carbon dioxide, water mist, dry powder, clean agent, and wet chemical fire extinguishers.

Fire Blankets

These blankets can help prevent spread of fires. The blankets cut out oxygen supply by covering the fires and ultimately extinguish or reduce the fire.

Fire Alarms

The response time to a fire outbreak can make the difference between saving and losing lives and saving or losing property. An efficient fire alarm system is essential in alerting firefighters through detection of imminent fires — through signs such as smoke. The alarm system will lead firefighters to the exact place where there is a fire.

Fire Hose

This high-pressure hose carries a fire retardant foam – or water – to extinguish a fire. The pressure enables the hose to emit powerful streams of water that can put out even a large fire.

Flamezorb

This is a powder that smothers fires. The powder is nontoxic and can easily be cleaned. This powder is especially useful for areas that have potential spillages such as a garage forecourt.

Fire Bucket

This is one of the simplest pieces of fire fighting equipment. The bucket is made of either plastic or metal. You have two options when using this bucket – either fill it with smothering power or fill it with water. All you have to do is dump the bucket over the fire until the fire is put out.

Fire Sprinklers

Once your fire alarm detects a fire and raises the alarm, fire sprinklers release water at a constant pressure. As such, it is important that these sprinklers have constant water supply.

Fire Hydrant

This is a water reticulation system that transports water. Hydrant systems reduce the number of hose reels the fire-fighters have to use to put out a fire. This speeds up the fire-fighting process. Hydrant systems should only be used by trained firefighters.

About Me
Get the Job Done with a General Contractor

Hello, my name is Phil. Welcome to my blog. I recently bought a new property at a great price. Unfortunately, the place was pretty old and shabby. I tried to do some DIY projects in my spare time, but it was taking a long time and my wife wasn't very happy. Thankfully, my friend suggested I hire a general contractor. The guy I hired was great and was able to do a wide range of jobs. He soon fixed up the place and had it looking great. I decided to start this blog to encourage others to hire a general contractor.
